Speech-Language Pathologist
Jen is a speech-language pathologist (S-LP) with experience working with individuals ranging across the lifespan from newborns, to children and teens, to all ages of adults.
Jen graduated from McGill’s University’s School of Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2008 with a Masters of Applied Science in Speech-Langauge Pathology. She is a member of good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologists as well as with Speech and Audiology Canada. Immediately upon graduating, Jen began her career on an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team. There, she had the opportunity to work with children with neurological diagnoses, their families and local teams at the rehabilitation centre and across the province in homes, preschools and schools.
Jen’s life brought about many moves and changes. Each presented with an opportunity to enrich her career through different continuing education opportunities, volunteer experiences, and jobs. One of Jen’s favorite things about being an S-LP is connecting with others and making a difference in their lives. Jen has been fortunate to also work as a school district S-LP, a private practitioner, and a hospital based S-LP. Most recently, Jen worked with inpatient adults, but is grateful to return to Little Ones and to work with children again, her initial passion within the field. To ensure best practice, Jen updates her S-LP skills regularly through continuing education opportunities. Since June 2021, she has maintained certification in the early language intervention Hanen program ‘It Takes Two to Talk’.
Jen believes in the power of communication: everyone should have a ‘voice’. Development of communication skills starts at the earliest ages and continues throughout the lifespan. Communication is best worked on in functional situations: for children, this is often through play and daily routines.
Jen is a mom of 3 busy children. When not working, she is most often running the roads with her kids, cheering them on, completing reading challenges, going on outdoor adventures and trying to come up with haiku.
